107mph motorist had 'concern' for his mother's health

A MOTORIST caught doing 107mph in a Mercedes vehicle said he had "genuine concerns" after a call was received about his mum's health.

James Robert Weir (23), of Derrycoole Way, Newtownabbey, admitted speeding on the M2 motorway near Antrim town - a 70mph zone - on September 27 this year.

Defence barrister Neil Moore accepted it was a "phenomenal speed".

At Antrim Magistrates Court, sitting in Ballymena, the defendant was banned from driving for a month and fined £200.
