Antrim town man admits driving over the limit on trip to off-licence

AN Antrim town man had admitted driving with excess alcohol in his breath after going to an off-licence.

Paul Gray (35) resisted police when spoken to on April 4 this year.

Antrim Magistrates' Court, sitting in Ballymena, was told CCTV showed the defendant "stalled" his vehicle after leaving the off-licence before driving on.

He had an alcohol in breath reading of 94 - the legal limit is 35.

A defence lawyer said the defendant had alcohol taken before making a "foolish" decision to drive to get more drink.

The lawyer said the defendant had "panicked" when police arrived and he wished to apologise for his behaviour.

The defendant was banned from driving for 18 months and fined £300.
