Ballymena Court: Man allegedly had 'wooden baton with nails'

A MAN with a Ballymena address who is accused of possessing an offensive weapon - described on the charge sheet as a 'wooden baton with nails' - with intent to commit grievous bodily harm has had the case further adjourned.

Darren Casey (35), with an address listed as Hugomont Mews, is also charged with assaulting a police officer on the same date - February 5 this year.

Full details have yet to be outlined to Ballymena Magistrates Court.

A defence lawyer said the defendant "accepts that he was in possession of an offensive weapon, he does not accept the intent; nor does he accept the assault on police so they would be not guilty".

The case was adjourned to April 14 to fix a date for a contest.
