Ballymena man is accused of being disorderly in town and assaulting police officers

A BALLYMENA man is accused of being disorderly at Galgorm Street in the town.

Aaron Thomas White (49), of Lettercreeve, is also charged with assaulting two police officers and resisting one of the officers in the execution of their duty on August 7 this year.

At Ballymena Magistrates Court on Thursday, a police officer said she was aware of the facts in the case and believed she could connect the accused to the charges.

Defence solicitor Lauren Davey said she had only received papers in the case the day before the court and asked for an adjournment.

The defendant was not present at court nor was he on a video link from his solicitor's office.

The court heard the defendant is on benefits and the District Judge Nigel Broderick said legal aid would be granted "subject to benefit proof".

No further details were given to the court.

The judge adjourned the case to September 16 to allow the defence to get the "attitude" of the accused to the charges.
