Ballymena man is contesting machete charge

A BALLYMENA man who denies possessing a machete as an offensive weapon at Church Street in the town is to contest the case on April 28.

David James Samuel Beech (29), of Staffa Drive, has also pleaded not guilty to having the machete in a public place 'without lawful authority or reasonable excuse'.

At Ballymena Magistrates Court a defence lawyer previously said the defendant had been "moving house" and had "forgotten" about the machete which had been in the "boot" of a vehicle.
