Belfast man who says cannabis helps him 'relax' is told by judge to 'obey the law'

A BELFAST man who told a court that cannabis "helps me relax" was told by a judge the drug is illegal in Northern Ireland and he should "obey the law".

Ciaran Gribben (33), of Cliftonville Road, was detected with cannabis after being stopped in a vehicle in the Crumlin area on April 19 this year.

At Antrim Magistrates Court, sitting in Ballymena, District Judge Nigel Broderick said it was the defendant's fourth conviction for possessing cannabis.

The defendant was given a two months jail term, suspended for a year, and was told by the judge:"If you want to avoid going to prison stop taking drugs".

The judge added: "If you want to go somewhere it is legal it is a matter for you".
