Carrick man is accused of sexually assaulting nurse

A MAN with a Carrickfergus address accused of a sexually assaulting a nurse has had the case further adjourned.

Samuel William McDowell (37), of Beech Drive, is charged in relation to October 31 last year.

The charge is that he 'intentionally touched' the female, 'the circumstances being that the touching was sexual' and she 'did not consent to the touching and you did not reasonably believe that she so consented'.

A defence barrister said it is an allegation of "sexual assault within the confines of a hospital where Mr McDowell was".

He said medical notes are being examined regarding a "potential issue as regards automatism given this man's mental health status at the time".

At Antrim Magistrates' Court, sitting in Ballymena, the case was adjourned to August 30.
