County Antrim man gave 'two fingers' to court

DISTRICT Judge Nigel Broderick said a man caught driving whilst disqualified four days after getting banned had given "two fingers" to the courts.

Arron Anthony Smith (25), of Craighill, Antrim, was detected in an uninsured Vauxhall Corsa at Stiles Way in the town on December 16, 2019.

A defence barrister told Ballymena Magistrates Court (main picture) the defendant had not been legally represented and was convicted in his absence when he was originally banned in court in Belfast and after he received a letter saying he had to surrender his licence within five days he "mistakenly thought he could drive within those five days".

At Ballymena Court, Smith was ordered to do 80 hours of Community Service; was given six penalty points and fined £50.
