County Down man (27) caught driving whilst disqualified for 11th time is given 10 months jail sentence and a 10 year road ban

A 27-YEAR-OLD Newtownards man caught driving whilst disqualified for an 11th time has been given a 10 months jail sentence and a 10 year long road ban.

Gary McCormick, of Tower Court, had the latest offence detected at Donard Avenue in the town whilst he was in an uninsured BMW in May this year.

A defence lawyer accepted it was "not a happy picture to present to the court" but the offending appeared to be "tailing off".

District Judge Mark Hamill said he was "astonished" that with the defendant's record the case had not been sent to the Crown Court by prosecutors.

He said the McCormick also had four convictions for dangerous driving.

The defendant had bail fixed for appeal in the sum of £400.
