Court hears of 'threat' to man's life if he 'goes into Newtownards'

A DEFENCE lawyer for a man accused of assault said there is a "threat" to his client's life if he "goes into Newtownards".

The matter was raised at Newtownards Magistrates Court (main picture) in relation to Ian Anyon (57), with an address listed on a charge sheet as in Newtownards but now living away from the town.

The defendant is set to contest a charge of assault relating to July 28 last year.

District Judge Mark Hamill excused the defendant from having to appear at court in Newtownards in person and instead he will appear via a video link from a solicitor's office.
