Court hears parents took a 'very stern view' regarding 22-year-old son's cannabis use

A DEFENCE solicitor told Ballymena Magistrates Court a 22-year-old man's parents have taken a "very stern view" after police caught him with cannabis.

Officers stopped a car at Circular Road in Ballymena and after detecting a strong smell of cannabis the drug was found in a grinder in the vehicle on September 11 last year.

Josh Ervine, of Old Frosses Road, Cloughmills, pleaded guilty to possessing the Class B drug.

Defence lawyer Stewart Ballentine said it was hoped the detection was a "wake-up call" for the defendant.

District Judge Nigel Broderick said the defendant had a previous drugs-related matter and fined him £250.
