Court hears police spotted early morning 'fight' in Antrim town centre

AN 18-year-old Antrim man has been ordered to do 75 hours of Community Service and was put on Probation for a year in connection with his involvement in an early morning incident at the town's Market Square.

Bradley Hodge, of Greenvale Park Lands, was in court for sentencing after initially being charged with assault and disorderly behaviour.

A prosecutor told Antrim Magistrates Court, sitting in Ballymena, a police patrol at 1.40am on October 9 last year saw "a fight break out between a group of males".

An officer saw the defendant kick out at a male who was on the ground "but could not be certain if the defendant actually connected with the injured party's head".

The court heard the alleged victim "refused to engage with police".

A defence barrister said the defendant had taken alcohol at the time.

He added: "He was provoked at the time in defending his friend".
