Court hears pregnant woman was punched at hostel in Ballymena

A WOMAN punched a pregnant woman in the face at a hostel in Ballymena, a court heard.

Brigid McDowell appeared at Antrim Magistrates Court, sitting in Ballymena (main picture), on her 34th birthday.

The defendant, with an address listed as Meadowview Avenue in Dundalk, has "turned her life around" according to a defence solicitor and is now living in the Whitehead area.

The charge relates to Mill House hostel at Henry Street in Ballymena in 2009.

A prosecutor said no injuries were observed by police.

The court heard there had been numerous attempts to serve a court summons on the defendant from 2009 to 2014.

The defendant has been given a one year conditional discharge.
