Court in Ballymena hears drug addict is dealing with his 'demons' in prison

A MAN who, a defence solicitor said, has had a "particularly bad drug addiction", has been dealing with his "demons" in prison.

Details emerged as Stephen Casement (43), with an address listed as Maghaberry Prison, admitted stealing aftershave and razor blades worth £107 from Gordon's Chemist in Antrim town.

The defendant appeared at Antrim Magistrates Court, sitting in Ballymena, via video link from prison.

The court heard the defendant has a bad criminal record and has been in custody on other matters since July last year with a September release date when he will then have to serve a year on licence.

For the theft offence the defendant was given a two months prison term.
