Court in Ballymena hears drunk woman with Magherafelt address tried to bite police officer's hand at hospital

A DRUNK woman found "collapsed" at an address in Antrim town was "very combative" in an ambulance and at hospital kicked two police officers on the chest and face and struck a third on the shoulder and attempted to bite that officer's hand.

Saiyaana Hickey (19), of Greenvale Park in Magherafelt, admitted three charges of assault in relation to September 25 last year.

She appeared via video link from Hydebank prison at Antrim Magistrates Court, sitting in Ballymena.

Meanwhile, on October 13, 2019, police received a report of an intoxicated female "refusing to leave a chip shop" in Antrim town and was abusive towards police and kicked a police officer on the shin but later said she was sorry.

Defence barrister Aaron Thompson said it had been "desperate and pathetic behaviour" but he hoped the defendant "will find her way out of that particular storm".

Deputy District Judge Trevor Browne said the defendant had "made an awful mess of things" but she was only young and he hoped a three months prison term, suspended for 18 months, would "give her the spur to turn herself around with appropriate support".
