Downpatick man is jailed for four months for damaging electronic monitoring tag

A DOWNPATRICK man who has admitted causing criminal damage to an electronic monitoring tag has been jailed for four months.

Leonard McVeigh (42), of Colmcille Road, committed the offence on November 17, 2019.

The case was mentioned at Downpatrick Magistrates Court.

The court heard there had been a 'no prosecution' direction in relation to other "serious" charges the defendant had faced.

It was said the defendant had been on remand in relation to the original charges since November 2019 and is also a sentenced prisoner with a release date of December next year.

A defence lawyer said the defendant had "no memory" of what happened to the tag.

District Judge Amanda Brady said the original charges had been "very serious".
