Drink driver on wrong side of road nearly crashed into oncoming vehicle in Antrim town

A DRINK driver on the wrong side of the road nearly crashed into an oncoming vehicle, Antrim Magistrates Court, sitting in Ballymena, was told.

Alexandru Sebok (51), of Donegore Drive in Antrim town, admitted driving whilst disqualified and driving with excess alcohol in breath in Antrim around 8pm on January 30 this year.

He also pleaded guilty to failing to provide a specimen of breath for a preliminary test; possession of a 'false' driving document - described by a prosecutor as a "low quality, fraudulent, photocopy of his driving licence - and an insurance-related charge.

The defendant had an alcohol in breath reading of 59 - the legal limit is 35.

At court he had the assistance of a Romanian interpreter.

Sebok had driven on the wrong side of the road at Stiles Way, nearly hitting an oncoming vehicle, before swerving and colliding with a kerb

A defence lawyer said it was fortunate no one was injured in the "escapade".

District Judge Nigel Broderick said the defendant had a previous drink driving conviction and banned Sebok from driving for three years.

The defendant was also given a three months jail sentence, suspended for two years; and fined £100.
