Eight months jail sentence for County Antrim man convicted of harassing former partner

A MAN convicted of harassing his former partner has been given an eight months jail term.

Aaron Moreland (34), formerly of Stiles Farm and now of Culnafeigh Green in Antrim town, committed the offence in April and May this year.

He also breached a Non-Molestation Order in June this year.

Antrim Magistrates Court, sitting in Ballymena, heard the case had originally been contested.

A defence lawyer said despite the conviction the defendant "does not accept" his behaviour was harassment.

District Judge Nigel Broderick told the defendant: "You have a very relevant record. You have been convicted on three separate occasions of offences involving the same victim and this is now offences four and five. You just can't get it into your own head that you have to stay away from this lady. You have reached the point of no return."

The judge handed down a five months jail term and activated a three months suspended sentence and also put a two year Restraining Order in place.

Bail was fixed for appeal in the sum of £500.
