Erratic driver from Lurgan swerved onto motorway hard shoulder

A MOTORIST who had driven erratically through Belfast and along the M2 motorway was stopped by police at Moira Road near Crumlin, Antrim Magistrates Court, sitting in Ballymena, was told.

Lawrence Francis McVeigh (24), of Lurgan Tarry, Lurgan, was previously convicted in his absence on the basis of the papers in the case.

A prosecutor said police received reports from road users that a Volkswagen Golf was swaying across white lines and had driven through a red light in east Belfast in October last year and near Applegreen on the M2 it was swerving back and forth between lanes, including going onto the hard shoulder.

The vehicle was travelling "well below" the speed limit and eventually police stopped the vehicle near Crumlin.

Offences included driving without due care and attention and breaching a traffic sign.

The court issued a warrant for the defendant's arrest.
