Four County Antrim men are charged in connection with '£6,000 blackmail'

FOUR County Antrim men are charged in connection with alleged blackmail involving, it is claimed, an 'unwarranted demand' for £6,000.

They are Lee Purdy (28), who had previously lived in Ahoghill but whose address was given as Maghaberry Prison; Mark Bamber (36), of Brookfield Gardens, Ahoghill; Shayne McKay (40), of Drumtara in Ballymena and Lee Thompson (42), of Brookfield Gardens, Ahoghill.

The men are also charged in connection with the alleged entering of a dwelling in Randalstown with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm on a man whilst having a 'weapon of offence, namely a bat or stick' - and causing criminal damage at the address.

At Antrim Magistrates Court, sitting in Ballymena (main picture), the cases were sent to Antrim Crown Court on September 2.

Bail conditions include not entering Randalstown.
