Heroin addict is jailed for stealing meat from shops in Ballymena

A MAN caught with heroin who also stole £35 worth of steaks from Co-op in Ballymena and £86 worth of meat from the Iceland store in the town has been jailed for eight months.

Christopher Mouland (32), of Devenagh Way, Ballymena, was sentenced at Antrim Magistrates Court, sitting in Ballymena.

The court heard the defendant had previously been barred from entering the Co-op.

At Iceland the defendant had paid for a chocolate bar but not the meat and was identified on CCTV.

The court was told the defendant had a record and was in breach of a number of suspended sentences.

A defence barrister said the defendant's addiction problems had "pulled him right down"

District Judge Nigel Broderick said the defendant's criminal record of 102 convictions was a "sad picture".
