Holywood man facing murder charge has case further adjourned

A HOLYWOOD man accused of murder has been further remanded in custody.

Timothy Steven Walker (40), of Abbey Ring, had the case mentioned at Newtownards Magistrates' Court (main picture) on Wednesday May 25.

He is accused of murdering 25-year-old Denis Shearer and of carrying out an aggravated burglary in February, 2021.

Walker is alleged to have beaten Mr Shearer to death after he claimed he heard voices in his head at a house on Fernmore Road in Bangor.

Mr Shearer died in hospital nine days later with a previous court hearing being told a post mortem result concluded that the cause of death was blunt trauma of the head due to multiple blows from a blunt instrument.

The same hearing heard Walker told officers he couldn’t remember his movements on the day as he had been drinking but that he heard voices in his head which told him to “get him”.

This week's court heard the defendant is in Maghaberry Prison but he was not produced on a video link.

A defence lawyer said a judge had previously asked for a "psychiatric assessment" to be carried out "but that hasn't been done".

He added: "It is a matter of urgency. We're concerned for his wellbeing at this time."

The case was adjourned to June 22.
