Jail for man who spat on nurse who was 'assisting her son' at Ballymena Train Station

A MAN who spat on the uniform of a nurse who was "assisting her son" during an incident at Ballymena Train Station has been jailed for six months.

Bradley Smith (19), of Main Street, Cullybackey, then ran away from police on January this year.

Full details of the incident were not outlined to Antrim Magistrates Court, sitting in Ballymena, where sentence on that case had previously been deferred.

The court also heard an intoxicated Smith was being "aggressive" when ambulance staff were present on July 25 this year and when police were called he then shouted obscenities at officers.

He lashed out at police and kicked an officer on the leg.

The defendant had been in custody since July.

District Judge Nigel Broderick handed down a three months sentence for the 'spit' matter and three months for the new offences, making a total of six months in prison.
