Jail for Newtownards woman who assaulted police officers at caravan park

A WOMAN with a Newtownards address who assaulted two police officers and was caught with Diazepam at a caravan park has been jailed for a month and fined £100.

Alana Louise Lewis (29), of Trasnagh Drive, kicked out at an officer and struck another officer on the hand on September 20 last year.

The defendant appeared via video link from Hydebank prison and pleaded guilty to the charges.

The court heard she is due to be sentenced in the Crown Court in August in connection with a 'burglary'.

A defence solicitor said the defendant has been receiving treatment for "complex mental health issues" and "addiction issues" but believes she is "turning the corner" in relation to the matters.

He said Lewis is prepared to continue to engage with all agencies "to get her life back on track".

Jailing the defendant for a month, District Judge Mark Hamill said: "Lay hands on police officers again Miss Lewis you won't get a result like this."
