Kilkeel motorist had 'just bought' Audi and was detected doing twice his permitted speed

A KILKEEL motorist restricted to doing 45mph was detected doing twice that speed in an Audi he had just bought.

Denvir Gardiner (29), of Grange Meadows, was on his way home from a caravan in Castlerock, a defence solicitor told Ballymena Magistrates Court.

The defendant was caught doing 90mph on June 1 this year on the Lisnevenagh Road dual-carriageway at Ballymena which is a 70mph zone.

The court heard no L plates were up.

The defendant passed his test a week after the detection, a defence lawyer said.

The solicitor said the defendant had worked with cars all his life and had an "unhealthy fascination" with vehicles.

District Judge Nigel Broderick said the defendant had a "very poor record" and banned him from driving for a month along with a £125 fine.
