Larne woman claimed she couldn't remember shoplifting incident in Ballymena after being 'spiked with drugs'

A LARNE woman who stole two bed sets worth £35 from 'The Range' shop in Ballymena told Ballymena Magistrates' Court: "I was spiked with drugs that night, I didn't know what I was doing".

Alana Campbell (38), of Fanad Drive, admitted a theft charge in relation to January 12 this year.

A defence solicitor said the defendant, a former care assistant, attends Community Addictions and has been "engaging well" with a Probation Order.

District Judge Nigel Broderick said he recognised the defendant had "difficulties" but she could not continue to offend.

The defendant, who had a previous record, was given a three months prison term, suspended for a year.
