Man (60) is accused of sexual assault

A 60-year-old man with an Antrim town address is accused of sexually assaulting a male.

Kevin Bartlett, of Fountain Street, faces five charges of intentionally touching a male, 'the circumstances being that the touching was sexual,' in relation to alleged incidents in 2020.

He is also accused of 'sexual assault by penetration' of the same male and the seventh charge is 'causing' the same male 'to engage in a sexual act'.

The accused appeared at Antrim Magistrates Court, sitting in Ballymena, via video link from his solicitor's office.

During a Preliminary Enquiry - the legal step to send the case to the Crown Court - a prosecution lawyer submitted there was a case to answer.

A defence lawyer had no contrary submissions.

The defence barrister applied for legal aid, saying the accused is in receipt of "Jobseeker's Allowance".

The case was sent to Antrim Crown Court on March 22 and the defendant was given £500 bail.
