Man accused of involvement in '£750,000' drugs case has bail refused at Ballymena Court

A MAN accused of involvement in the supply of cannabis with an estimated street value of £750,000 has had a bail application refused at Ballymena Magistrates Court.

Jia Wei Wang (39), of Hanbury Grove, Newport, Wales, has been further remanded in custody.

No bail application was made by a co-accused - Ke Dou (34), of no fixed abode.

The charges are linked to searches at Waveney Court in Ballymena, Larne and Belfast.

Refusing Wang bail, District Judge Nigel Broderick said the defendant faces a number of "what are on the face of it very serious allegations given the amount of drugs and the valuation attributed to them.

"The defendant accepts some culpability insofar he accepts being in control of drugs found in a vehicle and Waveney Court and it appears he has made admissions to being involved in either their possession and/or packaging those drugs".

The judge said Wang had a clear record but he was "concerned given the volume and quantity of drugs involved".

He said there was a risk of further offences and a "risk of flight".

Both men had their cases adjourned to November 25.
