Man accused of making threat to 'kill kids at Regent House' is further remanded in custody

A NEWTOWNARDS man accused of making, what is described on a charge sheet as,  a 'threat to kill kids at Regent House' has been further remanded in custody.

Gavin Copeland (24), of Lakeview Manor, is also charged with assault in relation to the same date - October 27 this year.

Full details were not outlined.

Newtownards Magistrates Court (main picture) heard the defendant had been previously remanded in custody and was refused High Court bail.

The defendant has been in custody for two months.

Reflecting on bail previously being refused in the case, District Judge Mark Hamill said: "I wasn't brave enough to put the children of Newtownards at risk and neither was a High Court Judge."

The case has been adjourned to January 12.
