Man accused of threatening to kill Health Minister Robin Swann is now on bail

A 44-year-old Newtownards man charged with making a threat to kill Health Minister Robin Swann is now on bail, a court in the town heard.

William Herbert Hawkes of Ardmillan Crescent is accused in relation to Twitter social media posts relating to the minister.

He is also accused of harassing Mr Swann and improper use of electronic communications.

At an earlier court the defendant had been remanded in custody.

At that court a police officer said that on November 15 this year Mr Swann reported that threatening messages had been posted on Twitter, including one saying: 'I would advocate the killing of Northern Ireland's health minister.'

The full file in the case is due with prosecutors by the end of December.

The case has been adjourned to January.
