Man denies possessing machete as offensive weapon in centre of Ballymena

A BALLYMENA man denies possessing a machete as an offensive weapon at Church Street in the town.

David James Samuel Beech (29), of Staffa Drive, has also pleaded not guilty to having the machete in a public place 'without lawful authority or reasonable excuse'.

At Ballymena Magistrates Court the case was adjourned to April 28 for a contest.

A defence solicitor said there is police bodyworn footage "of the recovery of the item, which my client says was in the boot of the vehicle, which had been forgotten about.".

The lawyer added: "He was moving house".
