Man fined £300 for breaching Covid restrictions at '18th Birthday Party' in Ballymena

A MAN who was one of a number of people attending an 18th Birthday Party in Ballymena has been fined £300 for breaching covid restrictions which were in place in May this year.

Geoff Lynn (28), a tarmac layer, of Summerfield Street in Ballymena, also admitted obstruction in connection with giving a false name.

A prosecutor told Ballymena Magistrates Court at 10.30pm on May 8 this year police attended a residential address in Drumtara in Ballymena in response to "a report of a house party and a possible Covid breach".

The court heard police noted eleven people from nine different households in the property for an "18th Birthday Party".

The prosecutor said the defendant was sitting at a kitchen table "consuming alcohol".

She said it is believed other people have also been charged.

A defence solicitor said the defendant, who had a previously clear record, "wouldn't have a great understanding of rules and regulations and would panic when confronted by figures in authority".

The lawyer said the defendant "doesn't usually leave the house that often".
