A MAN returned to his home at Suffolk Close in Antrim town and after noticing the front door was insecure he saw a male exiting through a rear door.
Details emerged as Liam Valliday (31), with an address listed as Maghaberry Prison, pleaded guilty to burglary in which a tobacco tin with 50 grammes of tobacco was stolen on January 25 this year.
A prosecutor told Antrim Magistrates Court, sitting in Ballymena, other items in the house had been "disturbed" and police later found Valliday's finger prints.
Defence barrister Aaron Thompson said the defendant had a "very unenviable criminal record".
He said the householder and Valliday knew each other.
The lawyer said the defendant had "completely lost the run of himself" and had been taking drugs and alcohol.
The defendant was jailed for two months.
