Man sentenced after attack near garage in Ballymena

A MAN dropped a shopping bag after being kicked and when he tried to pick it up was kicked again outside The Phoenix garage in Ballymena.

McAuley Darch (22), with an address at Mullaghacall Road, Portstewart, admitted assault in relation to November 13, 2019.

A defence lawyer told Ballymena Magistrates Court said there had been a "background" but said there had been "no further difficulties" between the two men.

The lawyer said the defendant, who had a record, was " living in Ballymena at the time, with bad company".

At Ballymena Magistrates Court, Deputy District Judge Greg McCourt noted there was "no serious injury" in the incident.

He handed down a two years conditional discharge and ordered the defendant to pay the man who was assaulted £150 in compensation.
