Man was disorderly at George Street in Ballymena

A MAN who was disorderly in the George Street area of Ballymena has been given a two months jail term, suspended for a year.

Darren Bell (41), of Barra Street in Antrim town, was "highly intoxicated" and was shouting loudly and acting aggressively on September 10 this year.

Police warned him about his behaviour but he shouted at officers and began to "spit repeatedly" on the ground.

A defence solicitor said the defendant has "reduced his alcohol intake".

The defendant told the court via a video link from his solicitor's office: "I have insomnia. I was drinking whiskey, I shouldn't drink whiskey.

"I fell asleep in a taxi and woke up in Coleraine.  I sleep walk when I am drunk and I am half in and out of consciousness drunk but I can't sleep without it...or weed".
