Alcoholic remained 'alcohol free since arriving in Ballymena'

A MAN who had Xanax and Alprazolam in his room at the Lighthouse Hostel in Ballymena has been given a two years conditional discharge.

Conor Sweeney (31), had the offence detected on May 20 this year.

A defence solicitor said the defendant, who is originally from Omagh, had described himself as an alcoholic prior to arriving in Ballymena but has remained alcohol free over the last year which was a "considerable achievement".

Deputy District Judge Greg McCourt told the defendant at a court in Ballymena (main picture): "You are doing very well staying off alcohol but you are going down the wrong road if you start taking these drugs".
