Man with 'bad record for shoplifting' strikes again in County Antrim ... at 8.30am

A MAN, who a judge said had a "bad record for shoplifting," has been given a two months jail term, suspended for a year, for stealing two bottles of wine from Lidl in Ballymena (main picture) at 8.30am.

Aurel Dulghery (52), of no fixed abode in Ballymena, took the wine - worth £8.98 - on July 19 this year.

He had the assistance of a Romanian language interpreter when he appeared at Antrim Magistrates Court, sitting in Ballymena.

The court heard the defendant was with another person who paid for alcohol but Dulghery concealed two bottles in his coat and left without offering payment.

A defence lawyer said the defendant had a record and had received a prison term last year for 13 offences.

He said Dulghery had been in Northern Ireland for three years and had worked at first but had since lost his job and "fallen on hard times".

The court heard the defendant is an alcoholic and lives a "nomadic lifestyle staying at friends".
