Motorist who was already disqualified crashed into car near petrol station in Antrim town

A MAN who was already banned from driving took to the road and crashed into the rear of a car which was turning into Islandbawn petrol station near Antrim.

Samuel Busby (39), of Kellburn Park in Burnside near Ballyclare, admitted driving whilst disqualified and driving without due care and attention in relation to October 30 last year.

Defence barrister Amy Campbell told Antrim Magistrates Court, sitting in Ballymena, the defendant's lift had "let him down" and he had "taken a chance" to get behind the wheel.

Deputy District Judge Trevor Browne said he was "not impressed by his behaviour at all".

He added: "I don't accept the excuse put forward. He just pays little or no regard to the driving legislation"

The defendant was given a four months prison term, suspended for 18 months; banned from driving for a year and fined £200.
