Nine months road ban for teenager caught riding scrambler on busy rush hour road

A TEENAGER caught after riding a scrambler in the "dark" on a busy road alongside a line of traffic at 4.50pm on January 21, 2020, at Main Street, Toome, has been banned from driving for nine months and fined £400.

Peter John McAleese (19), of Loughview Drive, Toome, then made off towards a canal path and into an estate, Antrim Magistrates Court, sitting in Ballymena, was told.

He admitted insurance and a driving licence offences arising out of the incident.

On April 20, 2020, the defendant was unlicensed and uninsured in an Audi A3 at Loughbeg Road, Ahoghill.

On March 10 this year the defendant was in an uninsured Volkwagen Bora which exited Shore Road at Toome, almost colliding with a passing vehicle.

The defendant had no L plates displayed.

The next day police seized the vehicle for no insurance.

Defence solicitor Shane O'Neill said the defendant had no previous record.
