Nurse caught speeding at 100mph in County Antrim 'simply wasn't concentrating'

A NURSE caught doing 100mph in a BMW X2 has been given three penalty points and fined £200.

Oyindobra Stephanie Ojoh (29), of Burghley Mews in Belfast, was detected at Rathbeg near Antrim town (main picture) on the M2 motorway on May 19 this year.

A defence lawyer told Antrim Magistrates Court, sitting in Ballymena, at the time of the offence the defendant had just moved to Northern Ireland from Surrey.

He said she is a "disability nurse" and had worked throughout the pandemic with the "most vulnerable in the community".

The lawyer said the defendant lives in Belfast and works in Antrim and the loss of her licence would be "devastating".

He said the defendant said the speed had increased because she "simply wasn't concentrating".

The lawyer asked for leniency given the defendant's personal circumstances and "the service she has provided the community throughout this pandemic".

Deputy District Judge Trevor Browne said he didn't understand how somebody's speed could "creep up" by 30mph over the maximum limit.
