Offences detected after motorist ran out of fuel on M22 near Dunsilly

INSURANCE and driving licence offences were detected after police came to the aid of a driver whose vehicle had run out of fuel near Dunsilly on the M22 motorway near Antrim.

Damien McLaughlin (40), of Glenville Park, Newtownabbey, came to the attention of the PSNI on February 15 last year.

On June 5 last year the defendant again had insurance and driving licence offences detected, this time at Whitewell Road, Newtownabbey.

The defendant gave false details but was recognised by a police officer.

Four days later, in Belfast, the defendant had taken a vehicle without authority and again there were insurance and driving licence offences.

Deputy District Judge Trevor Browne said the amount of offending was "just unstoppable" and handed down a three months prison term, suspended for 18 months;  banned the defendant from driving for two years  and fined him £400.
