Over-the-limit motorist (74) was 'swerving' at Sevenmilestraight near Antrim town

POLICE detected a 74-year-old motorist over the limit at Sevenmilestraight near Antrim town after receiving a report of a vehicle "swerving over the road".

William Roy Thompson, of Donore Crescent in Antrim, appeared at Antrim Magistrates Court, sitting in Ballymena, and pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol in his breath in relation to 7.30pm on February 18 this year.

Police noticed the vehicle had a flat tyre and the defendant told them: "I think I hit a kerb".

The defendant had an alcohol in breath reading of 63 - the legal limit is 35.

The defendant was banned from driving for a year and fined £300.
