Police helped Larne man sleeping on grass area and then found drugs

POLICE saw an intoxicated man lying sleeping on a grass area and when he allowed them to help search for his house keys, Diazepam tablets were found.

Stephen Withersppon (29), of Ballycraigy Ring, committed a Class C drugs offence in June last year.

Police assisted the defendant to his home.

A defence solicitor told Ballymena Magistrates Court the defendant would like to thank the police "for the way they helped him on that night".

The defendant was ordered to do 75 hours of Community Service.
