Police left 'covid literature' on car near Slemish then detected smell of cannabis

POLICE went to leave 'advisory literature' in relation to the pandemic on a car parked near Slemish Mountain during the first lockdown on April 10, 2020, and then detected a smell of cannabis coming from the vehicle.

When Matthew Porter (26), of Huntingdale Green, Ballyclare, returned to the car he admitted he had cannabis and handed over a grinder containing a "very small amount" of the drug.

Defence solicitor Shane O'Neill said the defendant had been "struggling" at the start of the pandemic and there had been no further offences.

The defendant admitted possessing cannabis and failing to produce his driving licence to police and at Ballymena Magistrates Court was fined £125.
