Police received report of 'unsteady' woman leaving off-licence in Randalstown then drink drive offence detected

POLICE were told about about a woman who was unsteady on her feet leaving an off-licence in Randalstown and then getting into a vehicle.

PSNI officers went to the home of Gitana Venckuviene (43), of Beechmount Park in Randalstown, on May 3 this year.

She had a reading of 58 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath - the legal limit is 35.

The defendant told police she had drank less than half a bottle of WKD and decided to go to the off-licence to get more alcohol.

A defence solicitor said the defendant accepts she was over the limit but had taken more alcohol when she returned home.

"It seems to have been a mistake on her part on this one occasion," the lawyer said.

At Antrim Magistrates Court, sitting in Ballymena, the defendant was banned from driving for a year and fined £200.
