Police saw man was unsteady on feet after he got out of Lexus car to pick up rubbish at McDonald's restaurant in Coleraine

POLICE received a report of a suspected unfit driver in a Lexus at McDonald's restaurant drive-thru in Coleraine and when officers arrived they saw he was unsteady on his feet when he left the car to pick up rubbish.

Jonathan Neill (26), of Westbourne Crescent in Coleraine, was then detected with drugs in his blood including cannabis and Diazepam.

The offence was detected on September 17, 2019, and prescription medication was seized from the driver's door pocket of the vehicle.

Coleraine Magistrates Court, sitting in Ballymena on Monday, heard the defendant is currently a sentenced prisoner.

A defence solicitor asked for credit for a guilty plea at the first opportunity.

He said the defendant is due to be released from prison in October.

For the McDonald's incident the defendant was given a three months prison term and banned from driving for a year.
