Police spotted woman (37) using electric quad bike at Galgorm Road in Ballymena

A 37-year-old woman who police spotted driving an "electric" quad bike from Galgorm Road in Ballymena into Smithfield Place, claimed she was unaware she needed a licence and insurance.

Majella McGahey, of Balmoral Avenue, Ballymena, was also not wearing a helmet on September 12 this year.

A prosecutor told Ballymena Magistrates Court the quad bike was "not designated for use on the road".

A defence lawyer said it had been a "mistake".

The defendant was banned from driving for six months and fined £200.
