Prosecutor tells Ballymena Court man claimed Diazepam tablets were bought for £50 from unknown man in hostel

A BALLYMENA man caught with 50 Diazepam tablets said he bought them for £50 from a male he didn't know at a hostel, a prosecutor told the town's Magistrates Court.

Peter Gabriel McCallion (31), with an address listed as Chiswick Walk, came to police attention whilst walking in the Sandown Park area of Ballymena on March 27 this year.

The defendant, who admitted a charge of possessing Diazepam, was spotted dropping a small item from his pocket and police then saw a small blue plastic bag containing 50 yellow pills.

He told police they were for his own use.

District Judge Nigel Broderick told the defendant he had to "get a grip" with drugs issues and warned him if he didn't he would go to prison.

The defendant was put on Probation for a year.
