Sock was placed over CCTV camera at flats at High Street in Ballymena

A COURT has heard a man was identified on a CCTV camera when a tobacco packet and then a sock were placed over the device at flats at High Street in Ballymena.

Cailin O'Neill (22), with an address listed as Victoria Street in Belfast, admitted the attempted burglary of a flat at High Street on December 16, 2020.

A prosecutor told Ballymena Magistrates Court two males had attempted to force entry to a flat.

CCTV showed a tobacco packet and then a sock had been used in an attempt to cover the CCTV camera.

The defendant told police he had only met the other male that day.

O'Neill told police the plan was to "jemmy" the door but he admitted it had been "stupid" and he "just got carried away with the co-accused".

The case was adjourned to April 21 for a pre-sentence report.
