Three-times-limit drink driver was stopped within 75 metres of leaving Limavady pub

POLICE received a report of a man drinking in a Limavady bar with his vehicle outside and when he had gone to drive home he was stopped within 75 metres three times the alcohol limit.

Steven Arnfield (31), of Hill Close, Ballykelly, has admitted driving with excess alcohol in his breath in relation to June 21 this year.

He had an alcohol in breath reading of 106 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath - the legal limit is 35.

A defence solicitor told Limavady Magistrates Court, sitting in Ballymena, if the defendant continued to offend he would be getting "free bed and board with HMP".

The lawyer admitted it was an "appalling" alcohol reading.

The defendant was banned from driving for three years and fined £300.
